12 male & female athletes to represent Dominica at CARIFTA Games 2017 in Curaçao on Easter Weekend4/13/2017 Few of the members A team of twelve athletes will represent Dominica at this year’s CARIFTA games to be held in Curacao over the Easter weekend President of the Dominica Amature Athletic Association Godwin Dorsette, introduced the team consisting of Dominica’s top athletes, Seven females; Shanee Angol, Treneese Hamilton, Natherlie Robert, Keva Pierre, Kianne Benjamin, Tia George, Fannie Greg, and five males; Keyon Burton, Josh Toussaint, Danelson Mahutiere, Leon Hypolite, and Cody Hamilton. These athletes will participate in track and field events, shot-put and javelin, at the 2017 CARIFTA games.
The CARIFTA Games is an annual athletics competition, founded by the Caribbean Free Trade Association (CARIFTA). The games consist of track & field events including sprint races, hurdles, middle distance track events, jumping and throwing events, and relays. The meet normally runs over three days during the Easter period, and includes over 150 separate events. The Games have two age categories for boys and girls: under-17 and under-20, the latter in line with the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) guidelines for junior athletes. Meanwhile, Dorsette is urging Dominicans to pay greater attention to track and field athletics. Speaking at the introduction ceremony of Dominica’s team for the 2017 CARIFTA games on Tuesday, Dorsette said track & field has opened numerous academic opportunities for Dominica’s youth, granting them chances to excel. he added that he hopes to see greater support for track and field in the future.
