Leader of the United Workers Party & Economist, Dr. Thomson Fontaine, says this morning’s incitement case levelled against himself, UWP President, Lennox Linton, and Former Prime Minister of Dominica, Edison James, was adjourned to February 27, 2025.This is because it may have been observed that the prosecution’s case was not organised, and as a result the charge was not read to the defendants. The Judge is expected to give a final ruling on this matter by the end of February. It's been seven years since an incitement charge was set against Dr. Thomson Fontaine and the other two accused, however in 2022 the incitement charge was committed to the High Court for trial. The UWP Leader is currently out on $75,000 bail. Dr. Fontaine faces allegations of inciting violence and obstructing justice related to a February 7, 2017, event in Roseau, which is said to have occurred after the conclusion of a peaceful UWP Public Meeting. At the 2017 meeting held on Kennedy Avenue, calls were made for Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit's resignation. After the gathering, several businesses in the capital were vandalized. Multiple opposition members were later charged with inciting violence and obstruction of justice. Dr. Fontaine explained that the charges of incitement and obstruction are bogus and today’s engagement at the court illustrates the abuse of power by the Skerrit-led DLP Administration, in attempting to criminally charge their political opponents, who are United Workers Party leaders.
