ACMW President Wesley Gibbings want fight between the new DMCA & dormant MWAD in Dominica to end3/5/2018 Association of Caribbean Media Workers (ACMW) President Wesley Gibbings wants the fighting between the new DMCA and the dormant MWAD in Dominica to end immediately. Gibbings said the ACM is looking optimistically at Dominica, but the fighting must stop. Both organizations are attending an ACMW event in Barbados. Garvin Richards president of the DMCA is representing that organization, and Carlisle Jno Baptiste is representing MWAD. Later this week they will attend both the ACMW’s 9th Biennial General Assembly. Both organizations have been granted observer status at that Assembly. Gibbings said the ACM is a fraternity and it has to be frank. He said, “We have to stop the fighting. What the hell are we fighting for?” He referred to Hurricane Maria which devastated Dominica last September, and added, “You know we just came through one of the most serious episodes of our life, people lost their lives. Property damage was phenomenal on a scale that we have never experienced before, and people are fighting. What the hell are we fighting for?” Here is Gibbings speaking at a disaster reporting symposium on Friday. Meantime, Gibbings says the Media has a sacred duty to provide factual, reliable, & equitable information, and that the Freedom of the Press must be safeguarded by all media organizations. He stressed on the importance & purpose of the Media in society. Gibbings also made reference to ACM’s handbook on Climate Change published in 2005, regarding the concerns of the ACMW toward Caribbean Leaders, Caribbean Media Organizations, and their role in combating Climate Change in the region.
