After 8 years behind bars 51-year-old Mitchel Toussaint walks free. Mr. Toussaint was charged with the stabbing death of his brother Alexis Toussaint on 25th November 2011, the accused was found guilty in July 2019. Evidence in court revealed that the deceased came to the home of the accused in the evening, armed with a cutlass saying he wanted to kill him. A scuffle ensued wherebyAlexis Toussaint was the recipient of several cutlass wounds over his body. High Court Judge Wynant Adrian Roberts said having considered the facts of the case, and the length of time the accused has been in prison on remand, she had no choice but to release him immediately. Defence Counsel Darius Jones says it was a case of self-defense and that the slow processing saw years go by with little progress on the matter. He says it was a situation where they had to wait an inordinate length of time just to do something as simple as transcripts. This he says must have taken a toll on the individual. Defence Counsel, Darius Jones.
