Agriculture Minister Johnson Drigo has highlighted the importance of Cassava to the Agriculture Sector. A 2-day workshop aimed at assisting local farmers to elevate and improve the production of cassava got underway on Wednesday morning, at the Fort Young Hotel in Roseau. Dominica is one of the three (3) Caribbean countries benefitting from a grant agreement funding, which was signed between the Food & Agriculture organization sub-regional office for the Caribbean and the Barbados based Caribbean development bank (CDB). The 3-year project valued at US 1.2Million dollars is expected to introduce new improved varieties of cassava into the region as well as link farmers with new markets, namely Agro-processors. Mr Drigo spoke with members of the media following the opening session of the workshop. Drigo says cassava has to become part of the bread making business in Dominica. He says facilities have been upgraded and established for the cassava farmers. Agriculture Minister Johnson Drigo.
