Agriculture Minister Reginald Austrie insists that DLP Government decriminalizing marijuana has nothing to do elections, but rather it is part of a global process taking place right now. He added that it is the Government’s intention to revive Agricultural, and take it to new heights. He says there are new markets that are emerging since hurricane Maria that were not there before, as well new technologies, and government is now beginning to think more seriously about how to utilize green house agriculture because new local market is now developing. When asked “if this new local market is inclusive of Marijuana? Mr. Austrie responded by saying that the government has started the process of decriminalizing Marijuana and that it has to be well thought-out. He says research into how Dominica could benefit from this, has already begun, and it is not just about growing marijuana, it is also for medicinal purposes, so government is taking an indigenous approach. When asked to his response to persons who may say this is a political gimmick to gain votes, Austrie said this is a global movement and is not electorally driven.
