The ECCB has set up an internship program for students around the Caribbean who are interested in the field of Information Technology (IT). The name of the program is “Bright Sparks” and is geared towards giving them on the job experience as they venture out into their career of choice. The ECCB Bright Sparks Programme is open to young people from the eight ECCB member countries who have training in Information Technology, bringing them together for an all-expense paid internship in the Management Information Systems Department at the ECCB. Sports Minister Roslyn Paul says the government of Dominica has invested over $1Million to rehabilitate the Windsor Park Sports Stadium ahead of the T20 International Cricket matches between West Indies and Bangladesh. She listed the work undertaken, and the costing. This is the first time Dominica is hosting international cricket matches in 4 years. Gordon Henderson was defined as one of the pioneers of a genre described as a “synthesis of black, primarily West Indian rhythmic patterns.”This as the Discover Dominica Authority gears up to celebrate this July dubbed Cadence-Lypso month.
Dominica will be celebrating Cadence-lypso in collaboration with creole heartbeat magazine, with a season of culture and a 3-day festival, from July 29 to 31.Dominicans are encouraged to join each night to pay tribute to some of the influencers of Cadence at the Windsor Park Stadium forecourt. A cultural experience, Cadence-lypso is a French-Dominican genre of Music with the group Exile One credited as the pioneer. Their leader Gordon Henderson defined the genre as a ""...synthesis of black, primarily West Indian rhythmic patterns."" The music genre blossomed in Dominica, Guadeloupe, and Martinique, and was popularized by bands such as Exile One and the Midnight Groovers. Not only was the Carib Cinema (now Prevost Cinemall) a favorite movie hangout, but the site was used for Spelling Bee contests. In 1966 our brother Lawson won such a contest and still has the gift of a book on literature that he won as a prize. Such use of the public space for education and collective effort in that vein, outside the classroom, allowed our young to forge durable beneficial relations around the acquisition of knowledge. One learnt the art of study, proper speech and overall civility was fostered. Where are the current social instrumentalities by which we can cohere if all we do is shout at each other? Engulfed in the discordant clamor of unlearnt voices, we now witness the triumph of violence of thought that is now often made manifest by violence in deed. Marketing Officer of the Central Cooperative Credit Union Lorraine Henderson-Reid says the cooperatives on island should support each other. She says the movement consists of financial and non-financial branches from which all can benefit. Dominica joined the international community to observe 100 years of International Day of Cooperatives, on Tuesday. It was observed under the theme "Cooperatives, Build a Better World."
