PM Roosevelt Skerrit has revealed that Government has taken the decision to go ahead with the policy that was put forward to addressing the issue of vagrancy in the city of Roseau. Recently, Health Minister Dr Kenneth Darroux said a plan addressing the issue of vagrancy in the city could soon be implemented. Dr Darroux said a comprehensive plan to address vagrancy should be in place in the next few weeks. He also said that the ministries of health and tourism prepared a proposal that was currently being considered by cabinet. Petite Savanne MP, Dr Kenneth Darroux, says the official handing over of houses for displaced Dubique residents will hopefully be done within a month's time. The 50 Petro Casas donated by the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela are being erected in centre, Grandbay, for the relocation of the Dubique community. That community was deemed unsafe following the passage of TS Erika last year. Dr Darroux says work is progressing satisfactorily and resettlement is close to being completed. PM Roosevelt Skerrit says partisan, political differences are being taken to extreme measures in Dominica. He described this as unfortunate saying "It's the country and not the politicians who are the losers in this." According to him too often persons portray Dominica as dangerous as there are too many negative things being said about the island. General Manager of DOMLEC says company is committed to supporting the country's education sector7/26/2016 Acting General Manager of DOMLEC, Dave Stamp, says the company is firmly committed to supporting the country's education sector. Last Wednesday, DOMLEC presented scholarship awards to 4 students attending secondary school in September. The company also donated EC$10,000 to the Education Trust Fund. Stamp says DOMLEC firmly believes in the value of education. Meantime, Stamp commended the Board of Directors of the Education Trust fund for their continued efforts at ensuring the proper management of resources allocated to them. A Geothermal Development Bill is expected to be taken to parliament in the upcoming months. That's word from Dominica's Energy Minister Ian Douglas. Douglas says the Bill will provide guidelines for future partners of the country's geothermal development, upon which they can pursue the energy on island. The Police is soliciting the assistance of the general public in its investigations into the cause of a fire at the Our Lady of La Salette Roman Catholic Church at Pointe Michel.
According to reports, the Parish Priest discovered a fire inside the church building at about 9pm on Friday July 22nd 2016. While the building was not damaged, a number of pieces of furniture was destroyed by the fire. Police P.R.O, Sergeant Pelham Jno Baptiste has more details. In more Police news, investigations are ongoing into a motor vehicular collision which has left one man nursing injuries at the Princess Margaret Hospital.
According to reports, it is alleged that Alexander Barkwrick, driver of vehicle registration PS 476, lost control of the vehicle at Silver Lake. The incident took place on Monday July 25, 2016. Police are conducting investigations into the alleged burglary of the home of Verna Williams of Wesley.
According to a police report, an unspecified amount of money as well as a gold pendent was stolen by unknown individuals on Saturday July 23 between the hours of 11am – 8:30pm. Police PRO Sergeant Pelham Jno-Baptiste has more details. Marigot MP, Lennox Linton, says residents of the Marigot constituency are outraged at the deliberate neglect shown by the DLP administration regarding the construction of the Marigot Hospital.
In May 2014 the Marigot hospital was shut down due to termite infestation and services were moved to a temporary location. Within that same year, residents of the constituency were promised by the government that a new hospital would be built to handle the health care needs of the constituency. However the new Marigot Hospital has not been constructed and in the new 2016/2017 National Budget, only 300,000 dollars have been allocated for the design and preparatory work at the grounds for the new hospital. Miss Jaycees International, Tasia Floissac, has expressed her deepest thanks to supporters during her journey.
