Criminologist Dr Peter St Jean says in the face of corruption, and the broad issues of Justice, questions such as, who are we? how do we relate to each other?, how are we going to deal with each other when we do wrong or what we do right?, needs to stem from an introspective view point beginning from the very top of society. Dr. St. Jean says that usually when problems occur from the top, they trickle down to the other aspects of our society. This ripple effect from the elites of our society are crucial says St. Jean. He says we cannot address the issue of strata-led influence of our sociological disposition, without first addressing the issue of unbalanced power in Dominica. Dr St jean highlighted the asymmetry of power wielded by the current prime minister, and other elites in society, in terms of their overall characteristics, as it pertains to being subservient to the prime ministers demands. We are currently living in an archaic societal order which still operates under colonial-type policies, says General secretary of the Dominica Public Service Union (DPSU), Thomas Letang. Letang was addressing some of the realities of Dominica’s governing policies and how the role of the public service union plays into ensuring that the persons it represents, as well as its daily functions, are in sync with the betterment of the people’s LIVES. He highlighted the fact that we became independent 41years, and as such legislations of that time are outdated. He questions whether or not these types of colonial policies are direct reflections of stagnancy, that deny public officers their basic human rights. General Secretary of the DPSU, Thomas Letang
