The Caribbean Democrat Union (CDU), in partnership with the Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD) discussed “The Politics of Climate Change in the Caribbean”.It was revealed that youth are generally dissatisfied with the current action of political parties and are eager to see more robust, decisive actions on climate change and noted that youth believe political parties are taking a piecemeal and tokenistic approach to the issue rather than the inclusive and transformative approach required to make Caribbean countries more resilient.

In the early phases of the Covid Pandemic in Dominica, some patients complained about the Clinical Management at the Covid-19 Care facility. Principal Nursing Officer Mrs. Terrilia Ravaliere says this is now resolved. Speaking at the Covid-19 Press briefing held on August 27, 2021, Mrs. Ravaliere stated that infection prevention and control is seen as a significant part of the clinical management of patients at the nine (9) facilities. She noted that a high percentage of the patients admitted have non-communicable diseases. Ravaliere explains that although no visitors are allowed at the facility, drop-off of items are allowed. Opposition Leader Lennox Linton says recent statements by Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit on discussions with suppliers of petroleum products about their struggle to survive in an increasingly difficult regulated Dominica market, suggest a looming crisis that everyone should be extremely wary of. The petroleum products industry in Dominica involves the importation, storage, distribution and retail of petroleum-based products. That means diesel, gasoline and LPG. He explained the circumstances surrounding the cause of the country’s second & third Covid-19 deaths. He spoke at the Covid Press Briefing held on August 27, 2021. Dr. David Johnson advises Dominicans to get vaccinated, eat healthy and follow the health protocols mandated to maintain public hygiene. The Dominica Health & Wellness Association (DHWA) and the Dominica Association of Industry & Commerce (DAIC) are collaborating on a Health & Wellness Campaign for September, to help all citizens and residents of Dominica, in boosting their immune systems. DAIC’s Executive Director Lizra Fabien says this campaign will be held from September 1-30, 2021, as the partners contribution to Caribbean Wellness Month. Each challenge has a monthly calendar with simple things to do each day. The DAIC says the top participants will be recognized at the end of the Campaign, and encourages all Dominicans to get involved. Students of Grambling University have been promised that their outstanding school fees will be dealt with, with 2.9 million dollars being allocated to them. This promise came from Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, speaking on last evening’s Ah Nous Parley Program. Many of the Students on Government scholarships at Grambling State University were informed by the University that they will be kicked out of their dorms if their school fees were not paid; something that was supposed to be paid by their government. In an effort to support NDC implementation and wider climate action in the Eastern Caribbean, the NDCFI has embarked on a bold and exciting new renewable energy initiative. The Eastern Caribbean Solar Challenge: “Race to the Sun” aims to engage governments, the private sector, development partners and households in a united effort to increase the diffusion of solar electricity and heating across the region by the end of 2023, in the first instance. Increased deployment of renewable energy technologies in support of national, regional and global goals to increase climate resilience and towards keeping global temperature increase within 1.5°C.
