Pastor of the Truth and Grace Fellowship Global Church, Dr. Randy Rodney, alleges that some of Dominica’s main sectors and institutions in the society have been corrupted and compromised by high-ranking officials of the Skerrit-led DLP Administration, for the past 20 years. Dr. Rodney said however, there is hope for Dominica, if the public begins to recognize and chastise those who engage in misconduct in public office or in the private sector. Pastor Rodney referred to the former Commissioner of Police, who attempted to intimidate him by saying on radio “that there are some things that are more powerful than stones.” – However, that never stuck, but the Police Commissioner never questioned the threats made by government officials over the years - in public view, because of the compromised state of that office for the past 20 years. During a brief visit to Dominica, a gentleman who goes by the name Professor Peter Baofu shared his observations on the local lifestyle, describing it as laid-back, similar to other Caribbean nations and parts of Africa. While acknowledging cultural differences, Baofu highlighted a common trait among these regions: a relaxed approach to life that often correlates with a reluctance to engage in work. His analysis draws attention to the balance between cultural identity and work ethic in such environments. Baofu highlighted the pros and cons of living in both a laid-back and a workaholic society. He pointed out that while a workaholic culture can lead to heightened stress levels among citizens, it also offers certain advantages for a country's economy. Baofu specifically cited Hong Kong as an example, noting that the region's hard-working nature and focus on manufacturing for export allow it to efficiently import the goods it requires. Dominican-born, Canada Based Justice Dr. Irving Andre, recalls how justice was perverted by high-ranking officials of the political Directorate and the Judiciary in the favor of an accused person - who at the time was a well-known confidant of the Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit. The case was so one-sided, that the weapon which was seized as evidence was returned to the accused on order of the then commissioner of Police - despite compelling evidence that the accused was in fact guilty of certain crimes. Dr. Andre laments that it is instances of corruption like these, which have opened Dominica up to the level of compromise and corruption seen in the society today.
