The Caribbean region is blessed with an abundance of renewable energy potential that remains untapped due to a lack of financial investment. Energy service providers are ready to develop sustainable energy technology that would improve our lives. But they struggle to secure the funding they need to bring those solutions to us.
This is why Finance was one of the main components of the Technical Assistance Programme for Sustainable Energy in the Caribbean (TAPSEC). This five-year Programme was funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the European Union (EU) with the aim of providing technical and financial assistance to many of the regional institutions committed to shifting our region toward low-carbon climate-compatible energy sustainability. TAPSEC worked closely with a variety of partners such as the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat, the Caribbean Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREEE) and the Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) to develop and execute more than 80 initiatives that would expand regional access to modern, affordable and sustainable energy services. Among them were interventions designed to increase the number of bankable RE and EE projects across the region while reducing the transaction costs relating to investments in those projects. Through this two-pronged approach, the sustainable energy projects we need are prepared to receive funding while potential financiers are encouraged to provide it. The global pandemic has worsened the migration of executives who are our leadership mentors from the workforce. This has created a coaching gap for promising leaders. Dominican-born author, retired Procter & Gamble (P&G) executive, Kennedy Germain, newly released book, “How to Demonstrate Effective Leadership: 24 Real-Life Examples of Grace in Action” bridges that gap.
This book, which is believed to be different from other books on leadership, offers real-life examples of how anyone can lead in challenging circumstances. “How to Demonstrate Effective Leadership,” role models how to successfully apply twenty-four different leadership skills when faced with challenging situations from the boardroom to the classroom, whether you are a tenured or an upcoming leader. It provides readers with a powerful demonstration of how faith is a competitive advantage, an easy narrative reading versus being another dry, boring, theory-driven book, a holistic 3-dimensional approach to leadership, and an appendix full of resources for personal reflection and reference. According to Cecilia St. Hilaire, CEO of the RayAsta Foundation, many of the Dominicans providing patient home care have likely received geriatrics-related training. Although successful, this level of training differs greatly from treatment given to stroke patients. She says stroke recovery is difficult for everyone involved, especially the caregiver. She asserts that they have created a curriculum and level-based training to provide information on effective stroke care to people providing front-line care, and those working in home care. Businesses ought not to use sky-high inflation rates as an opportunity to raise prices, says ECCB Governor Timothy NJ Antoine. Price gouging occurs when a seller increases the prices of goods, services, or commodities to a level much higher than is considered reasonable or fair. Usually, this event occurs after a demand or supply shock. Common examples include price increases of basic necessities after natural disasters. Governor Antoine makes the appeal that, “This is a moment for patriotism and shared sacrifice.” ECCB Governor, Timothy N.J. Antoine
