Billy Doctrove gets 8 votes from 14 Affiliates to become New President of Dominica Olympic Committee5/19/2017 Billy Doctrove gets 8 votes from 14 Affiliates to become the New President of the Dominica Olympic Committee. Outgoing president Felix Wilson only mustered 5 votes, after years as president of the DOC. This, after long drawn out contentious battles to secure a new DOC Leader and executive, left many enemies in its wake. The election was conducted by Dominica’s Chief Elections Officer Steven Larocque. It was punctuated with an old contention over the eligibility of the Dominica Table Tennis Association (DTTA) to take its seat at the table, and participate in the elections. The DTTA won the day and took its seat accordingly. Doctrove spoke to media after his decisive victory, flanked by his new executive. He acknowledged the need to restore the reputation and image of he DOC. He resolved to restore the respect and prestige of the office of President of the DOC. He interpreted the result of the vote as evidence that member associations were not satisfied with the direction of the DOC. He said it appeared that the boat was astray, and his new executive would accept the responsibility to bring it back an even kill. He said “It’s going to take a lot, but I am confident in my executive”. Doctrove called on everyone to work “diligently” for the success of the DOC. “If anyone came on board to enrich themselves, this is the time to jump off the boat. He said, whatever our pockets are aligned with … be it gold, bronze, silver or whatever, so we will leave, when our term expires”. As regards “investigations into the affairs of the past executive,” Doctrove said there will be no “Witch-Hunting”, but warned that the new executive “will not turn a blind eye to anything that needs investigating”. The new DOC President said he was pleased with the results, and stressed that members made the right choice, as they may not have been satisfied with the job done by Mr Wilson, in managing the affairs of the Dominica Olympic Committee. He welcomed the media into the fold, and noted that they were “an integral part” of the DOC, but he asked them to be “objective and honest” in their reporting. The new DOC President called on affiliates who were “kicked out of the DOC for various reasons” to “come back into the family fold.” The new executive team comprises: President: Billy Doctrove; Vice President: Glen Etienne; Honorary Secretary: Phyllis Baron; Assistant Secretary: Fernella Wenham; Treasurer: Barry Casimir; Ordinary Members: Woody Lawrence, Godwin Dorset & Jenny Allport.
