This was revealed to the media last week after the launch of the Cassava Development Market Assessment and Technology and the Sustainable Approaches to Agribusiness and Value Chain Development for Roots and Tubers in the Caribbean, both funded by the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) and the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB). CARDI Representative for Grenada and Agronomist for the project Reginald Andall said, “There are some outstanding matters, especially from the Ministry of Finance, which we at CARDI hope to have greater collaboration so that we can even be more involved in Dominica and helping to push the agricultural sector forward.” Andall, who said that “the powers at be no exactly what I’m referring to” explained that financial support is needed from the Dominica government. “Let me say that we need a greater financial support, a greater commitment of the government of Dominica as they have promised to do and not just promised,” he said explaining that it is their “legal mandate” to give such support to CARDI. “We need them to put forward on the table what they have committed to and that will greatly help CARDI to increase their involvement,” Andall said. He added that CARDI has been doing well with a number of projects here but the organization “need that greater financial boost from the government of Dominica”. He also said that they have not been engaged in discussions with the government on this matter in recent time and would not only like to be engaged in discussion but “proper action”.
