Catholic Diocese of Roseau expresses solidarity with Dominicans and others affected by recent storms9/11/2017 The Catholic community of the Diocese of Roseau says it stands in solidarity with its brothers and sisters in Antigua & Barbuda, as well as those in the British and US Virgin Islands. They note that “We are aware that they are all extensions of Dominica, in that, many of our parents, relatives and friends live in these islands”. The 9th Roman Catholic Bishop of Roseau, Gabriel Malzaire, has more. Meanwhile, Malzaire is calling on all Dominicans to provide aid to the Hurricane Irma ravaged Caribbean countries.
We are all too familiar with the devastating effects of hurricanes and storms in our region, the damage they cause to property, and the loss of lives. In the last few days our sister islands of Antigua & Barbuda, the British & US Virgin Islands, and the Dutch & French Island of St Martin, have been severely hit by Hurricane Irma. In solidarity with our brothers and sisters in these islands, I request that a special collection be taken in all Churches and Chapels, and at all Masses and Services during the weekend of Sunday, September 17, 2017. In addition to the Church collection, we will receive donations from any individual or groups that are willing to contribute in cash or in kind. These can be taken to the nearest Presbytery or the Bishop’s Office. Bishop Gabriel Malzaire is the Bishop of the Diocese of Roseau.
