While speaking to media on Wednesday Evening, President of the Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM), Loftus Durand, noted that the DLP Government had provided some funds to Dominica’s Electoral Commission, for the implementation of Electoral Reform in Dominica. However, Durand is advising Prime Minister Skerrit not to interfere in the operations of the commission. He added that his advice is based on shocking evidence and testimonies. Durand says another issue involves the Prime Minister allegedly using his influence in forcing the Electoral Commission to authorize persons and send them overseas, to validate voters for the next general election. Durand says such actions are illegal, under the constitution. CCM President is speaking out against the DLP administration’s idea to develop a national ID Card for voting, which he says is logically & legaly impossible. According to Durand, the ID card needed for Elections is a Voter ID Card, which is only awarded to citizens who qualify to vote, as opposed to a general national ID Card which would be given to all Dominicans, regardless of their eligibility to vote or not.
