In respect of the upcoming general elections, the Office of the electoral commission, is advising persons to be aware of necessary requirements for voters’ eligibility. Some of the things that persons should take note of, are the residency requirements. according to the registration of elector’s act Chapt.203 anyone making a claim for registration must have been living in the polling district which they intend to register, for at least three months. For commonwealth member state citizens, it is required of them to be resident in the island for at least 12months along with the three-month residential requirements for the area they intend on voting. He says that the commission is encouraged by the current influx of persons seeking claims for registration, but cautions persons about the consequences of making false claims during this democratic process.
