The Cuban Telecommunications Company, Etecsa, in the coming months plans to launch Internet service on mobile phones in the province of Holguín as another of the alternatives that will expand online access for the local population. Yosvanis Pérez, head of the department of mobile services at Etecsa, explained at a press conference that even if there is no exact date for the implementation of the service, the necessary conditions are prepared for when the time comes, to offer it with the highest possible quality.
He noted that in this regard it is very important that people know the technical specifications of their devices, as recent surveys of Holguin users revealed that only 18 percent can access 3G service. He pointed out that most of the mobile devices coming from Latin America and North America may have 3G technology; however, they do not have the frequency of 900 megahertz, which will prevent the user from accessing the service.
