DAPD President Irma Raymond Joseph is calling on the government of Dominica to include persons with disabilities on their agenda to build a “Climate Resilient and Efficient Dominica, post Hurricane Maria. President Raymond Joseph says Agenda 2030 of the DAPD promises to “Leave no one behind”. She says, “This is what we in the disability community have been advocating on, when we speak of transforming a society to make it all-inclusive.” DAPD President Irma Raymond Joseph, she spoke to Q95 news in an exclusive interview on Friday. Meanwhile, Dominica Association of Persons with Disabilities (DAPD) is observing International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3, 2017, under the theme, "transformation to a sustainable & resilient society". The annual observance of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly resolution 47/3 in 1992. It aims to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development, and to increase awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities, in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life. DAPD President Irma Raymond Joseph is calling on all Dominicans to join the DAPD in embracing our citizens who have disabilities, and ‘get into the practice of genuinely assisting persons with disabilities.’ Meantime, Joseph has expressed apologies to all members of the association who expected annual activities, to celebrate International Day for Persons with Disabilities, on December 3, 2017. The DAPD President says all the activities including International Day for persons with disabilities have all been canceled for the remainder of 2017, due to the passage of Hurricane Maria.
