Daryl Bobb is Calypso Monarch after 17 years with Pat Aaron songs ‘The Truth’ & ‘When People Doh Like You’

​Daryl Bobb on Saturday night, won the Calypso Monarch Crown for the very first time after 17 years in the calypso business. He sang two songs penned by prolific calypso song writer Pat Aaron, “The Truth” & “When People Doh Like You”.
 
2017 Monarch, Karessa, put himself of contention when he prematurely aborted his first-round performance. His alleged request to sing the song all over again in that round was reportedly not allowed, and he was a no-show in the second round.
 
In the first round, the massive crowd at the rain-drenched Newtown Savannah completely immersed itself in the chant “The truth will make you free” and joined Bobb as one collective voice, as he shed the shackles that had so far kept him from winning the coveted title of calypso monarch of Dominica.
 
In the second round, Bobb’s masterful performance of his already popular song “When people Doh Like You” revealed the veteran performer who had on several occasions come close to winning the coveted calypso monarch title.
 
Eight-time calypso monarch, Dennison ‘King Dice’ Joseph came a close second, followed by Tasha P in 3rd place, and with ‘Sye’ in 4th place.
 
Bobb, Dice and Sye performed songs that were written by Pat Aaron. However, Q95 understands that Sye’s song entitled “Release Supplies” was penned by a different song writer.
 
The other finalists were De Scrunter, Haxey, Stephan, Jaydee & Chris B.
