DASPA CEO calls for traffic police to look into improving flow of vehicles in and out of Roseau11/27/2017 Chief Executive Officer of the Dominica Air & Sea Ports Authority Benoit Bardouille says while he is not an expert in the area of vehicular traffic control or other areas to do with traffic congestion in the city of Roseau, there are areas that may have to be looked at into improving the flow of traffic in and out of the capital city. He has expressed thanks to the motorists who cooperate with the police and DASPA during the flow of traffic out of the city into Fond Cole, but there is still some concern Mr Bardouille remains optimistic that some advancement in the area of traffic control can become possible. Dominicans have had to carpool and provide other means of getting into the city for several weeks after Hurricane Maria, so as to allow DASPA and other essential services to attend to more critical needs of the country. Meantime Mr Bardouille says efforts are being made to modernize the Woodbridge Bay Port and other ports of entry into Dominica, so that DASPA would not have to rebuild after each storm or hurricane that passes. Chief Executive Officer of the Dominica Air & Sea Ports Authority Benoit Bardouille. Meanwhile, Bardouille announced container traffic is beginning to return to a state of normalcy at the Woodbridge Bay Port, post Hurricane Maria.
Bardouille said “To the end of October we received some 1,163- 20-foot equivalent units into Dominica and on the outward path, only 110 units left Dominica.” “So that can tell you what the story was in terms of the volume of containers that we received coming in compared to what was going out…” The DASPA CEO emphasized the serious problem that container traffic posed to the organization, regarding storage and being able to make timely deliveries. According to Bardouille, a helipad, which was created at the port to facilitate aid distribution, made storing incoming containers difficult as space was limited, until the helipad operation was stopped at the port. The port was connected to the electricity grid on November 10 2017, Bardouille spoke to media on Monday.
