According to the President of the Dominica Business Forum, Severin McKenzie, due to the devastating blow to the private sector in Dominica, caused by the ravages of Hurricane Maria, and further worsened by the subsequent, rampant, looting of business enterprises in the aftermath, the fate of many private sector businesses is uncertain, and many private sector employees have been rendered jobless since the hurricane.
The Dominica Business Forum (DBF) recognizes the role of the private sector in the economic development of Dominica, as well as its role in the reconstruction process, in the post Hurricane Maria period. The Dominica Business Forum (DBF), will consequently be holding a special meeting today Monday 13th November, 2017, at the Public Service Union’s conference room from 4:00 PM, with all business owners. The Purpose of this meeting is to present brief sector updates from each DBF Partner Organization, in addition to discussing their concerns following Hurricane Maria. McKenzie says this discussion is vital, as it will enhance DBF's representation of the wider Private Sector, and will guide the way forward for them. DBF says it looks forward to this discussion with a view to help creating a more secure and favorable environment in which all can live, work and invest. Meanwhile, the DBF extends sympathy to families and friends who lost love ones, properties and livelihoods, as a result of Hurricane Maria, and is in solidarity with all the private sector businesses in these trying times. The DBF is appealing to all in the private sector, to make a special effort to attend the meeting at the Public Service Union’s conference room at 4:00 pm today Monday 13th November, 2017.
