DCA announces a tie between Vernice 'Lady V' Joseph & Murphy 'Sye' Jno Jules, for Road March 20173/8/2017 The lack of calypsos played during the 2 days of Carnival Street Jump-up has resulted in a tie for the title of Road March winner 2017. The Dominica Calypso Association (DCA) has announced a tie for the coveted title, between Vernice 'Lady V' Joseph & Murphy 'Sye' JnoJules.
DCA PRO, Davidson 'Observer' Victor, told media while Lady V's song 'De Spirit' dominated the calypso season from the beginning, Sye's Cartoon Cabinet caught up with her song during the two days of street jump-up. "We took everything into consideration and we felt that in all fairness, we said the most reasonable decision was to tie the road march between the both' he said. Earlier this week, many took to social media voicing their disapproval, after news surfaced that ‘Sye’ was declared the ‘road march’ winner. Among those voicing their concerns was popular MC and playwright Alex Bruno. "If not Lady V, who?" questioned Bruno in a post on social media site Facebook.com. The DCA PRO said "We had a lot to contend with". He added that from all reports, calypso did not get much priority on the streets on Carnival Monday and Tuesday. This is not the first time there has not been any clear-cut winner for the Road March title. In 2015, the title was shared between Young Bull, Comforter, and Lugarz, while in 2014, it was shared between Woksuk and Mighty Omee. And while the DCA has linked these decisions to the lack of calypsos played during the two days of street jump-up, comments from the public are suggesting that efforts be made by the association to engage a truck designated to playing only local calypsos during the 2 days.
