The Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) yesterday launched its Annual Tourism Awareness Month Campaign under the banner "Tourism is Everybody's Business; let's play our part". Tourism Awareness Month is geared at increasing public awareness of the tourism and hospitality industry's economic, cultural and social contributions to Dominica. Speaking at yesterday's launch, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, Careen Prevost, called on everyone to keep the concept of ‘Tourism is Everybody's Business’ at the forefront of their minds, to drive excellence in the industry. As part of this year's Tourism Awareness Month of activities, the Ministry of Tourism will be hosting an activity dubbed 'Road to Adventure'. Prevost says this activity includes a series of road shows geared at interacting with tour operators, community tourism groups and other stakeholders of the industry. These Road Shows will be led by the Tourism Minister, along with Senior Officials of the Ministry of Tourism and the DDA. Meanwhile, DDA Chairman Benoit Bardouille says many lives are impacted by Tourism, and called on stakeholders to acknowledge their role in the advancement of the industry. Tourism Awareness Month is an annual event which has been celebrated in May over the past twelve (12) years. The DDA in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and the DHTA, will host a number of activities throughout the month of May, to include a school lecture series, a Hike Fest, and a Tourism Youth Congress.
Twelve local service providers who have also partnered with the DDA in hosting Fam & Press trips from various markets, were also recognized at today's launch.
