DDA urging communities to observe Earth Day and be cognitive of best practices to preserve the Earth4/21/2017 Dominica will join the rest of the world in observing Earth Day 2017 tomorrow Saturday, 22nd April, under the theme ‘Environmental and Climate Literacy’.The day is intended to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s environment.
According to a release, this theme is vital, as Education is necessary to build a global citizenry, that is fluent in the concepts of climate change, and aware of its unprecedented threat to the planet. It further stated that, empowering everyone with the knowledge to inspire action in defence of environmental protection, is fundamental. The Discover Dominica Authority says it is joining in this year's celebration, and urged local communities to observe the day, by being cognitive of certain best practices which are in keeping with sustainable actions, that ultimately preserve the Earth for future generations. Some of the practices outlined by the DDA are: reducing individual energy consumption, using only the water one needs, disposing of solid & liquid wastes and medications safely, buying locally or growing your own, learning about composting, reducing, reusing and recycling.
