DFC awards prizes to winners in various groups and to individuals the 2018 carnival celebrations2/22/2018 The Dominica Festivals Committee (DFC) awarded prizes plaques and trophies to winners in various groups, and to individuals, who participated in the 2018 carnival celebrations, at an award ceremony today. The award ceremony also recognized winners in the Mas Dominik 2018 Carnival Parade. Ten categories were judged over the course of the two days, including costume bands, T-shirt bands, Lapo Kabwit and J’ouvert groups. DFC Chairman Gerald Cools-Lartigue said the winners only received trophies and plaques, as cash prizes were not possible due to the circumstances. The award for Most Creative J’ouvert group went to Chou Poul, while the Police Lapo Kabwit took home the award for Largest Lapo Kabwit band. The Longest Lap Kabwit award went to the Newtown Lapo Kabwit, and Lumination by Signal Band took home the award for the Largest J’ouvert Group. Dorian Carbon won the award for Most Creative Individual Male for his depiction of ‘Going in the Shower’, while the award for Most Creative Individual Female went to Yvette Bannis for her depiction of ‘Maria Tarpaulin’. Bacchanal Women won the award for Most Creative Traditional Group. Klubird took the award for Most Creative T-shirt Band, while Thunderbird won the award for the Most Creative Costume Band. Grand Fond Primary school took the award for Most Creative school band. The Lucia Lander Dance Group, Pioneer Preparatory, and the Castle Bruce Secondary School each received certificates of participation. Meantime, Marketing Executive at the Discover Dominica Authority Samantha Letang says the DDA and the Dominica Festivals Committee applaud the patrons of Carnival 2018 for making it a success. Mrs Letang says it was a challenge putting Carnival together and that with their support, were able to showcase why Dominica's carnival is truly unique. Marketing Executive at DDA Samantha Letang
