DFC Consultant Val Cuffy suggests there are too many Carnival events competing with Roseau carnival3/9/2017 At a press conference held at the DFC office on Wednesday, DFC Consultant Val Cuffy suggested that there are too many of the other Carnivals being staged in Dominica, are competing with the Roseau Carnival. Cuffy recommends that people should support the main Carnival which is celebrated in the City of Roseau.
He further stated that the focus needs to be on the main Carnival attraction in the City of Roseau, as is the case with the Nottinghill Carnival in the UK, and Labour Day in New York. He wants everyone to recognize that the Carnival in Roseau is where everyone has to come together, and make it as big as possible”. Cuffy further clarified his suggestion by stating that the other Carnivals that are being staged are behaving like they have to compete with Roseau, and Roseau has to compete with others. He added, “We have to support the Carnivals. St Joseph has its unique Carnival, Grandbay adds a unique cultural component to the Carnival in terms of the traditional masquerade, but we have to work as one unit.” Cuffy noted that once the main Carnival is launched in Roseau, there should be no discussion as to any other launch happening after that, so that all the media that comes in to be part of Dominica’s Carnival should remain in the City, which is the main attraction. He added that the other Carnivals are operating almost like there is a competition with Roseau, but Roseau is the capital, it’s the central focus, and everyone should try to be there.
