DFC says with just under two weeks to go, Mas Domnik 2018 activities are moving into high gear. Upcoming planned activities include the Carnival Movie Night on 2nd February at the Roseau Bayfront. This event will include reruns of past Carnival parades, street jump up, calypso and queen shows. Music will be provided by DJ Midian. Kubuli beer and Perky’s Pizza will be on hand to supply food and drink. The Stardom Calypso Tent held its Calypso Tug of War on January 31 at The Strip in Loubiere and there will be a Characters Tent at Symes Zee in Roseau on February 2. Stardom will also hold a calypso tent in Portsmouth on 2nd February, and another one on 3rd February, at The Strip in Loubiere.
The Carnival Ole Mas Festival will be February 4 in St. Joseph where 15 groups are expected to participate. Performances are planned by the Afrikulture Stilt Walkers, Kalinago Traditional Mas, St. Joseph Sensay, Colihaut Ban Moovay, Sugar Fire, Fire Stick, Bacchanal Women – Big Bottom Ladies, SakisLapo-Kabwit, Cassava Piece, St. Mary’s Primary School Kaboway, San Sauveur Primary School, Good Hope Black Devils, Castle Bruce Neg Mawons, Mahaut Bouyon Lapo-Kabwit, and Gutter Lapo-Kabwit. This festival is made possible with financial support from the Dominica Festivals Committee and is sponsored by Springfield Trading. The Triple Kay Band’s upcoming events include Inception on February 9, commemorating the band’s 20th anniversary, a Pure Punch Party at Layou on February 11, and Monday Mas. The band’s theme for this year’s street parade is to “revel in peace and fun for Carnival 2018.” On Carnival Tuesday, February 13, a group of more than 60 revelers from Guadeloupe will play Mas in Dominica.
