President of Dominica Freedom Party Johnson Boston is questions the reasons for the failure of the Electoral Commission to attend the National consultation on electoral reform held on Tuesday 24th April 2018, at the Goodwill Parish Hall. DFP Leader Kent Vital also expressed concern as to whether the Electoral Commission has been captured by the Government, or whether it is biased, as Electoral Commission officials failed to show up or even to respond to invitations to the consultation. Boston contends that if indeed the Electoral Commission is an independent commission, then it should be free to attend something of that nature, or at least have the courtesy to give a reason why it could not attend. Meanwhile, DFP Executive member Michael Astaphan says his earlier perception of Electoral Commission Chairman Gerald Burton seems to have been misplaced, because of certain characteristics displayed by him. Astaphan spoke on the weekly radio program “Freedom and you” on Q95fm on Wednesday evening. Astaphan went on to say that he has the most power in the topic of electoral reform and protecting the democratic process ensuring that it’s fair and unbiased.
