Disaster Consultant, Cecil Shillingford, says the issue of a total shut-down of businesses during storms and hurricanes, is something which has to be considered by those in authority. He says following the passage of Hurricane Matthew in 2016, officials in one the islands severely impacted are strongly considering this move.
Hurricane Matthew was a devastating tropical cyclone, which became the first ‘category 5’ hurricane since 2007. Matthew wrought widespread destruction on its journey killing over 600 people in several countries. Shillingford says he is one who has advocated for total shut down of business operations, whenever there is a storm approaching, particularly for the countries which will be impacted.
