DNCW to host a Consultation on NGO Legislation along with Barbados based Caribbean Policy Centre CPDC

​The Dominica National Council of Women (DNCW) in collaboration with the Barbados-based Caribbean Policy Development Centre (CPDC) will host a National Consultation on NGO Legislation on Thursday March 9, 2017. 
 
According to a release, the workshop funded by the European Commission seeks to improve the legislative environment for NGOs in the CARIFORUM by creating the policy that will lay the foundation for the development of legislation for improved/greater participation of Civil Society across CARIFORUM and to allow NGOs to be a part of this policy development process.
 
It states further that this initiative is predicated on the fragmented and sparse legislative framework for the operation of the Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Sector in the Caribbean.  Within the Caribbean Community only Belize and St. Christopher and Nevis have passed non-governmental organizations specific legislation. 
 
The consultation will take place at the NDFD and targets 31 NGOs and Civil society organisations.
 
Schedule to addressed the opening ceremony are Ms. Vanya David of the National Coordinating Committee; Ms. Carleen Roberts, National Authorising Officer; Mr. Gordon Bispham, Executive Director of the Caribbean Policy Development Centre and Ms. Jo-Anne Commodore Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Justice, Immigration and National Security.
