“Dominica was fortunate to be among four of the OECS islands to qualify for a combined grant of two million US to address issues related to curriculum and assessment, teacher professional development, leadership and accountability and monitoring and evaluation within our education system.” says Chief Education Officer Melina Fontaine.
Fontaine was addressing the start of a two-day workshop for teachers on Thursday June 21, 2018. She explained that the project was designed to focus on classroom practices, address the strengths, weakness and gaps associated with teaching, and finding solutions to address these issues. Fontaine explained that the workshop falls under teacher professional development, which is an activity within one component of a project that seeks to implement the agenda of the OECS Education Sector Strategy. The two-day ‘train the trainers’ workshop commenced yesterday at the Newtown Primary School, and hosted a number of principals, deputy principals and senior teachers.
