​The Dominica Cancer Society is stepping up its outreach this September with the message, “Early detection saves lives,” as its Men Support Group observes Prostate Cancer Awareness Month under the theme “Men, Your Prostate Health Matters.”
 
A series of prostate cancer awareness sessions will be held across the Kalinago Territory, beginning on Thursday, September 11 at Ma Cuffy’s Shop in Mahaut River, followed by sessions on Friday, September 12 at Willard’s Shop in St. Cyr, and on Saturday, September 13 at Theresa’s Shop in Pointe, Salybia.
 
The final block session will take place on Friday, September 19 at the Sineku Bus Stop. These events, organized in collaboration with the Castle Bruce District Health Team and the Kalinago Council, will be followed by prostate cancer screenings at health centres across the area.

The “block sessions” are designed to bring information directly to men in familiar community settings, making prostate health education more relatable and accessible.
 
In addition to these sessions, several laboratories and pharmacies are offering reduced costs on Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) tests and prostate cancer medications, while free screening services are available at health centres and some private doctors’ offices throughout the month.
 
The Dominica Cancer Society emphasizes that these initiatives aim to improve men’s health, strengthen family security, and support national development. Men are strongly encouraged to make screening a top priority during Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.
