The Dominica Chess Federation (DCF) has taken further steps in implementing its Chess in Schools Programme by giving chess sets to the Orion Academy. This initiative aims to establish or enhance chess clubs in schools across the island.
On Friday, September 15, 2023, Mr. Ian Dorival, president of the Federation, presented the school with four (4) chess sets and a timer. He expressed satisfaction with the growing interest in the game among schools and his anticipation that more students will participate in this sporting activity, as it fosters critical thinking skills and enhances focus. Established in December 2021, the Dominica Chess Federation has a mission to promote and expand the sport of chess on the island. The Orion Academy joins the list of schools that have received support from the DCF for the development of chess clubs.
