The Dominica Co-operative Societies League Ltd, is this year celebrating sixty (60) years of bringing people together under the theme: “Resilience” Developing Pathways to Sustainable Growth & Development Through Co-operatives.
According to a release, the League’s Mission is to provide the highest quality products and services to enable affiliates to actively serve their members to improve their living standards. Over the years the League has championed the causes of its affiliates in the areas of Advocacy, Education and Training, Advisory, Public Relations/Promotions, Supervision/fostering improved standards, Bonding and Insurance, Central Finance Facility, Supplies and a Depository. As part of its Social Responsibility, the League continues to heavily invest in the educational development of youths in Dominica. In recognition of the work of the pioneers within the Movement; the Joffre Robinson scholarship for excellence and the Sister Alicia Scholarship for need were instituted in 1986 and 1987 respectively. To date, the League has spent in excess of EC$400,000 in this initiative, with an addition of four partial scholarships. The League has thanked the many volunteers and stalwarts who over the years have given of their time, energy and intellect to progress the credit union movement further. This year, the League will be honouring Clement Carty, Michael Murphy, Vernice Belony, Richardson Panthier and Remus Thomas for their outstanding voluntary contribution to the credit union movement over the years.
