Dominica Electricity Services Limited has revealed that its generation capacity is now at about 70%2/20/2018 The Dominica Electricity Services Limited (DOMLEC) has revealed that its generation capacity is now at about 70%.
Generation Manager, Dave Stamp said approximately 89% of the island’s sole power company’s generation system and 98% of the Transmission Distribution and Customer Delivery System, were severely affected as a result of the passage of Hurricane Maria. Stamp made that presentation on behalf of DOMLEC, at the National Rebuilding and Economic Partnership Consultation, yesterday Monday 19th February 2018, at the Goodwill Parish Hall. Stamp said “Currently, on the generation side, we have 14 of 19 units available for dispatch and generation; that means about 74% of our generation systems have been restored, representing about 70% of our generation capacity”. He added that DOMLEC’s capacity for generation is 19 megawatts, while the install capacity is just under 27 megawatts. Meanwhile, Stamp said most of the hurricane damage was suffered at the Fond Cole and Padu Power Stations. In relation to Fond Cole, he said what is left to be done is the restoration of three units, which they hope to have completed by April 2018. He added that all but two of the hydro units for the hydro system which is located at the Padu Power Station are still out of commission, and these are the lowest in the grid.
