President of the Dominica Public Service Union Steve Joseph raised the question yesterday evening on the DPSU program; if we are going to establish good labour relations and negotiate in good faith, how can you trust individuals in the public domain, who malign the character of other individuals with untruths? Joseph also reiterated the union’s responsibility to insert itself in discussions of the issues surrounding electoral reform. Joseph briefly discussed the ratification of convention 151 that deals with the protection of the right to organize and procedures for determining conditions of employment in the public service, saying the convention has been ratified by a few governments within the region but not Dominica. He is of the opinion that a call should be issued for ratification and observance of these international conventions. Joseph reasons there is a gradual erosion of collective bargaining.
