According to Coordinator of the National HIV/AIDS Response Program Allison Samuel, Dominica will be increasing HIV testing island wide, in the days leading up to Regional Testing Day on 30th June 2017, and residents are urged to get tested so as to know their HIV status.
She explained that each of the seven (7) Health Districts will be given an opportunity to decide when they would like to do testing in their area”. All seven health districts have joined this activity and testing began on Tuesday June 6 in the Castle Bruce Health District. Regional Testing Day was launched ten years ago by LIVE UP: The Caribbean Media Alliance in collaboration with PANCAP and Scotia Bank, to bring greater awareness of HIV, and encourage everyone to get tested, to benefit by knowing their status. Testing days and sites were designated as follows: Tuesday June 6 Castle Bruce Health Center (9am - 4pm) Wednesday June 7 San Sauveur Health Center (9am- 4pm) Friday June 9 Roseau Health Center (8am - 1pm) D’ca Planned Parenthood Assn (8:30 am – 3pm) Monday June 12 Tete Morne (9am – 3pm) Tuesday June 13 Mahaut River Health Center (9am – 4pm) Thursday June 15 Bagatelle, Salybia Health Center (9am – 4pm) Friday June 15 Grand Bay Health Center (9 am – 3 pm), National HIV/AIDS Response Unit (8:30am – 3pm) Friday June 23 Roseau Health Center (8am – 1pm) D’ca Planned Parenthood Association (8:30am – 3pm) Friday June 30 Marigot Health District (8am – 5pm) Roseau Health Center (8 am – 1p.m) National HIV/AIDS Response Unit (8:30am – 3 pm) Portsmouth Hospital (9 am – 3 pm) And La Plaine Health Center (9am – 3 pm) Of the eight hundred (800) persons tested in 2016, one hundred and seventy-nine (179) of them were first time testers.
