Dominica participated for the first time in the 2017 OECS Cycling Championships hosted in Dominica on Sunday 2nd July 2017. Six islands took part in this challenging experience; however, Antigua dominated the competition and took home the win. Speaking after the competition, Tourism Minister Robert Tonge commended the Dominican competitors for their participation, despite the team’s failure to capture the trophy. He says he hopes to see more visitors following these events, as they improve over the years. ![]() Meanwhile, 2017 OECS Cycling Championship winner Jyme Bridges from Antigua & Barbuda, believes Dominica has the potential to produce professional cyclists. Speaking after his triumph at the championship, Bridges said if Dominican cyclists were to focus on hill work – a large part of the country’s terrain – they could produce even better cyclists than anywhere in the region. Meanwhile Dominican Participant Bram Sanderson appeared overwhelmed at the support shown by spectators during the race saying “This is a beautiful thing...” He says while the winning time may not have beaten his personal best he is grateful for the experience.
