Dominican film maker makes history and sets the tone for others seeking self-actualization9/17/2019 Dominican film maker Michael Lees makes history and sets the tone for others seeking self-actualization. Lees is a film maker and photographer based in Dominica in the Eastern Caribbean and has worked with (and for) a handful of well-established clients locally and abroad. He first got started as a Production Assistant on music video shoots in London then, later working as an office PA for nationally syndicated American shows, and shot and edited content for American billboards. He graduated with a BA in Communications studies and Minors in Business and PPE from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Upon his return home to Dominica in 2016, he embarked on his first feature length documentary, “UNCIVILIZED”, which saw him survive Category 5 Hurricane Maria in a palm leaf hut in the forest. Speaking to Qfm news reporter Hassan Robinson, Lees explained what inspired him to take on the challenge of detachment from society & head to the forests of Dominica. Some of his reasons stemmed from an altruistic orientation where the desire and need to acquire more than enough has somewhat put the world at harm, and through self-reflection, part of the solution lies within each of us says Lee. Mr. Lees also spoke about his findings in spirituality and the unique similarities found in many different spiritual cultures and beliefs, and says that ultimately, we are all connected to the same source.
