DPSU General Secretary blasts other unions for the absence of a Trade Union Congress in Dominica9/8/2017 Dominica Public Service Union (DPSU) General Secretary Thomas Letang, is putting the blame squarely on other trade unions, for not being seriousness in establishing a Trade Union Congress in Dominica. At a press conference yesterday Wednesday 6th September 2017, Letang said the DPSU views this delay as a “big shame”, as 2017 is the opportune time to have a congress, but all he gets from some of them is often just a big grin and nothing more. He said the DPSU is “fed up” of bringing up the idea to other unions who make no effort on the matter, and that other unions affiliated with the Caribbean Congress of Labour (CCL) should simply “run with the idea.” He is of the view that at this point, the DPSU is showing more interest in the formation of this congress than any other union in Dominica. He said “Without calling names, I think if there was interest, at least three unions; the DPSU and two other unions could form that congress, and the others would follow”. Letang further stated that the position of the DPSU is that, if interest is shown in a particular venture or idea, and other unionists are not on board, then “leave them behind and go ahead and form it.” Meantime Letang said being unable to meet the required criteria may have hindered the other unions from forming the trade union congress.
