Dr. Damien Dublin frames Reparations as a National Movement and calls for Kalinago recognition

Chair of the Dominica National Reparations Committee, Dr. Damien Dublin has emphasized that the reparations movement in Dominica is a broad national effort that transcends any single government, ministry, or committee. He clarified that the Dominica National Reparations 
Committee currently serves merely as a vehicle to advance the cause, acknowledging that future advocates will continue to carry the torch. 


Dr. Dublin paid tribute to the individuals and organizations—notably the Rastafarian movement—who have consistently championed the fight for reparations over the years, underscoring that the broader struggle relies on sustained collective advocacy. 


Turning his focus to indigenous heritage, Dr. Dublin expressed his hope that Dominica will eventually revert to its original Kalinago name, Waitukubuli, during his lifetime. He also renewed calls for a dedicated monument honoring the Kalinago people, pointing to the Pond Cassé roundabout as an ideal location to celebrate their pivotal role in preserving the island’s land. 

Reaffirming the committee's commitment to public feedback, Dr. Dublin noted that they plan to embrace constructive suggestions from the community to elevate the quality and reach of the reparations campaign moving forward.
