Dr. Thompson Fontaine says his new post in South Sudan is somewhat challenging but also interesting7/3/2017 Economist, Dr Thompson Fontaine, has described his new position in South Sudan as a challenging one but also interesting, given the current situation in that country. Dr. Fontaine took up the post of Senior Economic and Financial Policy Advisor to the Government of South Sudan in May this year. His role includes providing economic policy advise to Government, and assisting them in moving forward, following the 2013-2015 Civil war which displaced 2.2M people, and threatened the success of one of the world's newest countries. In an interview with Q95 news, Fontaine said South Sudan is still in a position of conflict, and that has made his job a bit complicated. As part of his contract, Dr Fontaine will spend two months at a time in South Sudan, and get three weeks off. Since relocating to that country two months ago, this is his first time he has returned to Dominica. Meantime, Fontaine says since having accepted a new post in South Sudan, he is continuing to consider his ability to serve as a senator, in terms of attending meetings of the Parliament. He says while meetings of the Parliament are infrequent, given the short notice to members, he cannot be certain at this time, of his ability to structure his leave at short notice, to allow him to attend these meetings. However, he says it is still too early to decide whether or not he will be unable to fullfil his duties as a senator. Meanwhile, he says even being miles away, he has been able to actively participate and remain a critical part of the United Workers Party.
