The Disaster Vulnerability Reduction Project (DVRP) convened a training session with local contractors, yesterday Tuesday 4th July 2017, on the use of World Bank Procurement Guidelines in Project implementation.
The main objectives of the workshop were: · To provide guidance on the requirement for, and importance of compliance with World Bank Procurement Guidelines in preparation of bidding documents; · To persuade Contractors to participate in the procurement process for various works under the project; and · To increase the confidence of local contractors in the transparency of the bidding process employed by the PCU. The session was facilitated by Mr. Fevrier Valmond, Procurement Advisor for the DVRP. Mr. Valmond is a Procurement/Contracts Specialist with extensive experience in the use and application of World Bank Guidelines and international procurement best practices in Dominica and the wider Caribbean region. The meeting attracted a total of eleven (11) firms. In addition to the aforementioned objectives, the DVRP Project Coordinating Unit (PCU) sought to build capacity within the small construction fraternity to produce responsive bids, which will also create opportunities for participating in other donor-funded projects. Under the DVRP, opportunities will be provided for small construction firms to participate in the procurement of Immediate Civil Road Works on the East Coast Road of Dominica, Construction of Hydro-meteorology Building, Installation of Hydro-meteorology Network, and Rehabilitation of Forestry Nurseries. Contractors will be required to provide relevant prequalification information specific to each sub-project in order to be prequalified for performing the Work. The DVRP wishes to thank the participants as this is a first step in strengthening capacity among local contractors as a means to increase competitiveness and opportunities available in the construction industry both in Dominica and abroad.
