Education Minister Petter St Jean says Students’ CXC success should be an inspiration to the country8/17/2018 The success of our students in the face of adversity should be used as an inspiration to the country, Minister of Education and Human Resource Development, Petter Saint Jean has said.
Saint Jean made that statement while addressing a press conference on Wednesday 15 August 2018, where the 2018 CXC results were released. With a 3.6 percent increase in the overall percentage pass, and an overall average twelve points higher than that of the region, Saint Jean stated that the students should be congratulated for their success. “I wish therefore to extend heartfelt congratulations to these students who tackle their examinations with determination. They triumphed over the lack of electricity in the remote areas and the urban setting, no access to internet, and the stress associated with the recovery process, and indeed they have achieved success,” Saint Jean stated. The minister added that the students’ achievement is proof that hard work will lead to success. He also congratulated the students, their families, teachers and the wider school community for their hard work despite the challenges posed by Hurricane Maria. “Their success is an inspiration to us all. It demonstrates that even in the face of adversity, good old fashion hard work can win out,” Mr. Saint Jean said.
