Five (5) Students of the Dominica State College, Phael Lander, Almira Lewis, Abegail Henderson, Gavin Leblanc and Gael Thomas will compete to be the regional winners, defending the ideas that led them to conquer the National Career Day Challenge, at the Dominica Public Service Union on 17th February 2017. They will be the Representatives for ‘Junior Achievement Dominica’ in this final leg of the Innovation Challenge.
After a series of Career Day interventions, seventeen countries carried out an Innovation Camp experience through which the youth, divided into teams needed to develop an innovative business concept to solve a real workplace challenge, presented by the local Scotia Bank Team. This initiative was led by the Local Scotia Bank Rep Miss Nicole Karam, supported by other Scotia Bank Volunteers Zarina Royer and Rosma Burton. On Thursday 9th March, the winning team will participate in the Regional Challenge, which is the final leg of the Road to Success Project. This regional competition will be hosted by Junior Achievement of The Americas online, via a Facebook application, to win the regional award. According to a release, the winners of the final stage will have the possibility of travelling to Canada, to gain a unique experience that will continue to transform their lives. The participation criteria for the teams include initiating a concept paper and a two (2) minute video, creating a social media Financial Literacy Campaign for youth aged 14 to 18. Each team from the 17 countries will present their new ideas, through an application that will allow an international jury to evaluate their proposals. The winners will be announced via a live simultaneous conference. The initiative “Road to Success”, is one of the regional projects of highest reach and impact developed by Junior Achievement (JA) Americas. Thanks to the support of Scotiabank, 50 thousand youth from 17 countries, will acquire tools that are key to their future, since these will shed light on their own road to success.
