Former Forest Officer of Dominica's Forestry, Wildlife & Parks Division, Stephen Durand, has revealed major insights into the origin & introduction of the Cuban Tree Frog into Dominica. The alleges that blame falls squarely on a Hotel and Spa in the Cabrits area in Portsmouth. Mr. Durand stated on Thursday, that under his supervision as Head of the Forestry’s Research Desk at the time, he was reliably informed that containers brought into Dominica for constructing the Resort, were opened on site at Portsmouth - releasing the invasive species of the Cuban Tree Frog in Portsmouth. Additionally, Durand shed light on the level of neglect in handling the unwanted release of the Cuban Tree Frog when they became visible to construction workers on site - after forestry was informed of its appearance on the construction site - Forestry officials came on site to confirm and strategize a major campaign to eradicate the then small population of the Cuban Tree Frog.
