Former UN Ambassador Crispin Gregoire tells DFP Delegates embrace a ‘unified opposition program’8/8/2017 Former UN Ambassador Crispin Gregoire urges DFP Delegates to embrace a ‘unified opposition program’. He was the feature speaker at the Dominica Freedom Party (DFP) Delegates conference on Sunday 6th August, at the DPSU Building in Roseau.
Gregoire acknowledged that he was an independent Labour Party advocate, who was not enchanted with present DLP regime, although he served as chairman of the Labour Party Campaigns in 2005, and 2009.He recognized the contribution of Dame Mary Eugenia Charles as Leader of the DFP, and as Prime Minister of Dominica for 15 years, from 1980 to 1995. Gregoire further noted that the DLP Government cannot stand without the 20% support that it currently received from the Freedomites at the last two elections. He raised some skepticism as to whether the DLP would receive that support if an active Freedom party was contesting the next general election. He advised the DFP Delegates that collaboration between opposition parties would give them a better chance to defeat the incumbent Dominica Labour Party, which has been in office for the past seventeen (17) years, and may now be threatened by voter fatigue. Meanwhile, Economist Kent Vital was elected by the delegates as the new political leader of the Dominica Freedom Party (DFP). Medical Doctor Sam Christian was elected deputy political leader. Former DFP political leader Michael Astaphan, did not seek re-election. Q95 will bring you more as it unfolded from the proceedings of the DFP delegates conference, in subsequent newscasts.
