Giselle Astaphan of J Astaphan & Co, says it has launched an initiative which she calls a “Ragga Kweyol Festival”, purportedly to stimulate economic growth, and advance Dominica’s music industry. Astaphan says this Festival is carded for 29th April 2017, and incorporates Dominican Culture, fused with Reggae and Dancehall. The Launch of this event took place at the Fort Young Hotel yesterday Wednesday at 10am. Astaphan says the focus of this event is to achieve market expansion and economic stimulation, in order to increase stay over visitors, and add another unique attraction to Dominica. Meanwhile, Director of Tourism Colin Piper says the latest initiative by Giselle Astaphan is a welcome idea, which has the potential to become a winning formula. Speaking at the launching ceremony on Wednesday, Piper said numerous calls have been made for the private sector to take the lead in initiating tourism projects. Thanking the organizers, Piper extended the support of the Discover Dominica Authority for the endeavour. In addition, Tourism Minister Robert Tonge says the Government of Dominica is pleased to partner with the organizers of the "Ragga Kweyol Festival" carded for 29th April 2017.
Tonge says the event has great potential to expand, and to give added promotion to Dominica’s Tourism products.
