Gold Cast 2018 Queen's Baton Relay (QBR) arrives in Dominica today along with a delegation of five6/14/2017 The Gold Cast 2018 Queen's Baton Relay (QBR) will arrive in Dominica this afternoon accompanied by a delegation of five persons.
According to a communiqué, the QBR is a unique symbol of the Commonwealth Games with its journey connecting the 71 Commonwealth nations and territories. It engages communities and provides an exciting platform for thousands of people, to ‘share the dream’, ahead of the quadrennial celebration of Commonwealth sport. The Dominica leg will be held from June 14 to 17, and officials of the Dominica Olympic Committee says its proposal for hosting the QBR involves Dominica's communities, sports, nature and culture. A welcome ceremony will be held today at the State House and other activities which the delegation will engage in during their stay include, a meet and greet with President Savarin, an active run at the Stadium with special Olympians and tertiary school students and an Island tour. The Baton will travel over 70% of Dominica. The QBR started at Buckingham Palace on March 13th 2017. At the commencement ceremony, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II placed her message into the Baton and entrusted its journey with the many baton bearers who will carry it around the Commonwealth. The Commonwealth Games will be held in Gold Coast, Australia from 4th to 15th April 2018.
